Policies:
- Dues must be paid before getting on the water.
- Members of FCC are in 8th through 12th grades inclusive (sometimes 7th grade at the discretion of coaches). Crew at a younger age is generally considered unsafe for the child’s joints. Contact Novice Coaches, to discuss this if more information is needed.
- Youth may apply for membership at the start of the fall season preferably after completing a Learn to Row course or at the start of the winter conditioning program. Traditionally, the fall season starts at the end of August and the winter conditioning program starts in late January.
- Membership in Fairport Crew is not based on the ability to pay dues. Financial assistance is available. Email bruceweick@hotmail.com for details. Put “membership” in the subject line.
- At times, FCC must limit the enrollment of new members due to equipment and facility restraints. Such limitations are at the discretion of the Fairport Crew Club and can change from year to year as our program grows.
- All athletes are required to read and sign the Athletes Code of Conduct found in your Fairport Crew Club Registration Packet before participating in club activities. Rowers and parents are required to follow the rules of our Boathouse as listed in the Code of Conduct.
- To join FCC, a membership application form, a liability waiver and a medical/emergency treatment form (found in the Fairport Crew Club Registration Packet) must be completed and signed before a rower will be allowed into a boat. The liability waiver and medical/emergency treatment form are valid for the calendar year. See the current season, above, for the forms.
- FCC rowers are required to be able swim 250 meters and tread water for a minimum of 10 minutes. Parents must attest to this in the Swimming Waiver portion of the Fairport Crew Club Registration Packet. The coaches and officers of FCC reserve the right to require members to periodically demonstrate swimming proficiency. Alternatively, rowers may be required to provide a copy of a Red Cross or equivalent swimming card.
- We practice and race in all kinds of weather except thunderstorms. Practice is continued in the boathouse during thunderstorms. However, if the Fairport Schools are closed or have canceled after-school and evening activities due to snow, then FCC activities will also be canceled. While every effort is made to give as much advance notice as possible about cancellations, sometimes short notice is unavoidable. Notice of cancellations will be made on this website and sent via FCC Rowers email.
- Rowers are expected to attend all practices, especially before a race. If the boat is left shorthanded, realize that none of the other rowers in that boat will be able to practice or race.
- It is FCC policy to stress safety above all else.
