General Volunteer Descriptions

Gas Team:

  • Purchase gasoline, mix oil and fill tanks for coaches’ boats
  • May be done in morning, afternoon or end of practice
  • Multiple people may work together as a team to split up responsibilities/share days

Battery Team:

  • Organize system for charging batteries for lights on boats for daily practice.

Boat and Launch Maintenance:

  • Work to complete minor repairs on crew shells and launches, on an as needed basis.
  • Connect with Bruce Weick for updated needs.

Safety Equipment and Coaches’ Boxes:

  • Check In with coaches to ensure coaches’ boxes and first aid kits are ready at the beginning of the season
    • Send email to all coaches before teams get on the water for the season, including a check list of necessary items for coaches’ boxes (including safety/first aid needs)
    • Ask coaches to send checklist and/or email back with items needed to update their own box
    • New coaches/those without a safety/coaching box should check in with Lee Frost to get one for their items
    • After receiving lists from coaches, shop for needed supplies and deliver to boat house (label for each coach to make sure items get to correct person)
  • List of items for coaches’ boxes
    • Basic first aid kit
      • Alcohol swabs
      • Band aides
      • Gauze (large and small)
      • Tape
      • Ice pack
      • Gloves
      • Disposable masks
    • Waterproof flashlight
    • Whistle
    • Safety blanket (mylar type)
    • Sanitizer
    • Batteries
    • Throw rope
    • Container of parts – extra wingnuts, washers, split washers and nuts for rigger repair (see Bruce Weick)
    • 7/16 wrench

Team Parents:

  • One needed for each squad (novice girls, novice boys, varsity girls, varsity boys)
  • Organize a fun team bonding event during the season (past examples include pizza on the porch, team dinner, movie night, etc)
  • Help squad captains coordinate gifts for coaches at the end of the season.
  • Support coaches with team communication if necessary

Bathroom Support:

  • Maintain bathrooms at the boat house – a deep clean should be done 1-2 times per month, with basic upkeep in between; should be cleaned and fully stocked at the end of each season
  • Wipe down sinks, counter, toilets
  • Clean mirror
  • Replenish toilet paper and other necessary items – these are located in the closet between the two bathrooms. The key is labeled and can be found behind the door off the porch, where thebathroom key is kept. If the closet supplies are low, please let the Volunteer Coordinator know.
  • Empty trash and sweep floor
  • Check supplies every two weeks (great time is when you drop off/pick up your rower)

Landscape Maintenance:

  • Weed flower beds in front of boat house
  • Trim bushes and clear wooded area behind boathouse
  • Mulch beds

Towel Washers:

  • Wash towels from the boathouse one time per week
  • Gather towels used for wiping down boats – in bins near large bay doors of boat house
  • Take home to wash and return to boat house before following week

Travel Team:

  • Plan overnight travel to Head of the Fish Regatta (Fall) and State Regatta (Spring)
  • Book commitments with bus company, hotel, dinner
  • Create registration packets and help secure volunteers for the event (coordinate with Volunteer Coordinator)

End of Season Celebration Team:

  • Plan and execute dinner at end of season
  • Help with set up, clean up, decorations
  • Fall – dinner held at indoor location
  • Spring – picnic style dinner at boat house
  • Order main entrée (provided by FCC)
