Eligibility
Members of FCC are in 8th through 12th grade and are from Fairport or other towns that do not have a rowing program. Students entering 7th grade must contact the Novice Coaching staff to determine athlete readiness. Contact any coaches from the coaches page to discuss this if more information is needed. Youth may register at the start of the fall season after completing a Learn to Row course or at the start of the winter conditioning program. Traditionally, the fall season starts at the end of August and the winter conditioning program begins at the end of January. All rowers start at the Novice level; athletes are considered Novice for one calendar year from their first competitive season.
Dues
Dues are paid with registration for each separate season – Winter Conditioning, Spring and Fall. Dues can be paid by credit card on Regatta Central, or can be paid by check to Fairport Crew Club and sent to the registrar, Doug McGee, Fairport Crew Club, P.O. Box 1204, Fairport, NY 14450. If you wish to set up a payment plan, please contact the registrar. FCC is a non-profit organization funded by participation fees, donations, and fundraising. If a rower needs financial assistance, you can contact Bruce Weick, at bruceweick@hotmail.com. Put “membership” in the subject line.
Policies
Please review the FCC Policies before registering.
Uniforms
Varsity rowers and coxswains are required to have a uni for racing. Unis are ordered at the beginning of the Winter Conditioning, and the beginning of Fall season. Unis are measured to fit each individual; they are approximately $110. There are often used unis for sale through the FCC Clothing Store.
Novice rowers are required to wear the red Fairport Crew t-shirts as their racing uniform.
Team Travel
Travel fees are not included in program dues; these are paid separately. In the Fall, the team travels to Saratoga for a one-night overnight trip to compete in the Head of the Fish regatta. Travel costs may include bus transportation, hotel, and food. In the Spring, the team travels to Saratoga for the NYS Championship regatta. This is a 2-night trip and travel costs may include bus transportation, hotel, and food. Bus transportation may not be possible if the team does not have enough rowers. Travel costs are separate from dues and are calculated based on actual costs.
Parent Obligations
Parent volunteer work is required for each participant of Fairport Crew Club – we are a member-run organization that requires parent volunteers for many of the events and activities that make up each season. Each family is required to sign up for volunteer tasks; sign-up sheets will be posted at the Parent-Rower meeting. Please review the volunteer opportunities on the volunteering page of the website.
Fundraising
The Row for Community fundraiser and Community service program will be announced at the beginning of the Spring Season. ALL Fairport Crew Club participants are required to take part in both the Row for Community and fall fundraising activities. Details, including dates, times, and sign-up opportunities will be announced. Fundraising is crucial to keeping the cost of dues down and in our ability to maintain quality equipment.
